Candidate forum Wednesday · Cheers for Queers Thursday · Arts center season opens Sunday
|
No school for ISD 200 on Monday, a staff development day. The week’s two headline dates bookend it: a candidate meet and greet and forum Wednesday evening at City Hall, and the Hastings Arts Center opening its 12th concert season Sunday afternoon. In between, Thursday has a history book group at the library and Cheers for Queers at Spiral, and Saturday brings a bird hike at Carpenter with both apple orchards open. Here is the week. |

Local Spotlight |
Spiral Brewery
111 Second St. E.
Spiral started in 2012 as a joke between Jen Fox, her brother Nick and her sister-in-law Amy. It opened on April 20, 2018, the first brewery in Hastings since Prohibition. The town once had at least four; the last one shut down in 1918.
Jen Fox calls it “women-owned, women-operated, women-brewed.” Spiral has brewed more than 60 beers and delivers them itself to more than 250 bars, restaurants and stores. Its Facebook bio sums it up: “Brewing community through quality beer and rich history.”
Their Facebook page is here, which is the most current source for their schedule.
